  Yesterday, on the 28th of June 2023, the PQ rounds of the Porto 3 Cushion Billiard World Cup took place, setting the stage for intense competition and breathtaking performances. Here are some highlights from the event: In Group A, Ömer Karakurt emerged as the group leader, showcasing exceptional skill and performance, particularly in his match against Arnim Kahofer. Karakurt's impressive 2.7 average secured him a well-deserved victory. However, it was Gökhan Salman who truly stole the show, delivering an extraordinary performance. With an outstanding average of 3.75 (30 points in 8 innings) and a remarkable series of 15 points, Gökhan's play reached a whole different level. They are responsible for keeping track of points, monitoring shot times, ensuring adherence to rules such as the 40-second limit for shots, cleaning the balls upon request, and checking for fouls. However, one of the most contentious aspects of billiards is the decision-making process surrounding whether a shot is counted as a point or not. This particular aspect sets 3 Cushion Billiard apart from other sports. In this unique scenario, the players' opinions hold more weight than the referee's judgment. For instance, if the referee deems a shot as a point, but both players disagree, the point is not accepted. From my perspective, this rule can be seen as problematic, as it diminishes the confidence and authority of the referee.
